Assessment Part A: 1) Write the Arabic alphabet in order (28 letters) — 14 marks. 2) Add the correct positional form asked (initial/medial/final) for 6 given letters — 6 marks. 3) Name the diacritic shown and write one word containing it — 5 marks. 4) Write the Arabic-Indic numerals for: 3, 7, 15, 20, 100 — 5 marks. Total Part A: 30 marks. You work in silence. teacher or partner circulates but does not help — this is an individual assessment.

Assessment Part B: 1) Dictation — Listen as the text is read 10 words aloud (twice each), Write — 10 marks. 2) Reading comprehension — 5 vowelled words with 4 options each (circle the correct transliteration) — 5 marks. 3) Read 4 simple unvowelled signs and match to their English meaning — 5 marks. Total Part B: 20 marks. Grand total: 50 marks.

Reading aloud — individual assessment
While You are completing written parts (or after), teacher or partner calls You one at a time to a quiet corner and asks them to read 5 words from the vowelled passage aloud. Mark using a simple 3-point scale per word (2 = fully correct, 1 = partially correct, 0 = unable). Total reading: 10 marks. Heritage readers receive Level 2 passage (longer, includes some unvowelled words).

Collect written assessments. You self-complete their F1 achievement checklist (what they can now do). teacher or partner gives whole-class verbal feedback: "I noticed that most of us... some of us still need to practise... by F2 we will build on this by..." Preview F2: "Next unit — we meet real people. You will learn to greet someone, say your name, your age, where you are from." Write one personal target in their books for F2.
