يُوجَد (m.) / تُوجَد (f.) — formal "there is/are" (passive present of وجد). هناك (there is/are — less formal). Agreement: يُوجَد with masculine noun, تُوجَد with feminine: يُوجَد مسجد قريب. تُوجَد محطة في وسط المدينة. Review of قريب من/بعيد عن/بجانب/أمام/خلف from F3 — now applied to town vocabulary. Ordinal direction: على اليمين من، على اليسار من.
Notice the pattern
- تُوجَد محطة قريبة من المدرسة.

Activities
Complete the activities in order, or choose the one that addresses your weakest area.
Your town — what is in it?
Write down 5 places near their school or home in English. Then: how many can they already say in Arabic? Share — teacher or partner writes Arabic equivalents on board. Many will know مدرسة، مسجد، مطعم from previous units. Connect: "F3 we learned about rooms in the house. F5 we learned the neighbourhood around the house. Today we zoom out further — the whole town." Study a vivid photograph of a famous Arabic city (e.g. Cairo or Marrakesh) and ask: "What can you recognise?"
20 town places — vocabulary and gender
Present 20 places using flashcards with images. Group by function: Transport (محطة، مطار). Health/education (مستشفى، مدرسة، جامعة، مكتبة). Culture/religion (متحف، مسرح، سينما، مسجد، كنيسة). Commerce (سوق، مركز تجاري، بنك، مطعم، مقهى، صيدلية). Public (حديقة عامة، ملعب، ميدان). For each group: choral drill, then gender identification. You fill in a gender table. Special note: مستشفى is masculine despite the ى ending — an important exception.
يُوجَد/تُوجَد and location structures
Write on board: يُوجَد مسجد كبير في وسط المدينة. تُوجَد محطة قريبة من المدرسة. Explain: يُوجَد agrees with masculine nouns, تُوجَد with feminine. Write 8 sentences about places in their town using: يُوجَد/تُوجَد + place + location expression. Must use: at least 4 different location expressions (قريب من، بجانب، أمام، في وسط). Review: these location expressions come from F3 — You retrieve them in a new, extended context.
Town map activity — describing and drawing
Give You a blank town map template (simple grid with a few streets). You add 8 places to their map in any arrangement, label them in Arabic. Then: pairs describe their map to each other — partner draws the places on their own blank map based on the description. Compare: did the description work? What made it clear or confusing? This speaking + listening activity directly mirrors Paper 1 listening comprehension of directions and Paper 3 role play giving directions.
My ideal city
Write 4 sentences describing their ideal city: "في مدينتي المثالية، يُوجَد... تُوجَد... لا يُوجَد... (there is no...) لأنَّ..." Share 5 with class. The لا يُوجَد structure (negation of يُوجَد) is introduced here through the creative context — You understand intuitively and use it naturally. teacher or partner adds: "You just used a negated passive present in Arabic — that is sophisticated grammar."
