Urban passive: يُخَطَّط (is planned — Form II passive), يُبنى (is built — Form I passive), يُعاد تصميمُه (is redesigned — Form IV passive). Cities of the future in the Arab world
Study 3 images: NEOM (Saudi Arabia — planned futuristic city), AlUla (Saudi Arabia — heritage conservation + modern tourism), and Lusail (Qatar — planned smart city that hosted the 2022 World Cup). "The Arab world is building some of the world's most ambitious urban projects. What do you notice about these cities? How are they different from traditional Arab cities?" Write one Arabic sentence describing each image using يتميَّز بـ or مبني من — retrieving F1–F6/8 vocabulary in a P4 context.
Urban vocabulary and planning verbs
Present urban vocabulary. Check subjunctive after لِكَي (تَكونَ not تكون). Then: urban passive — "يُبنى مشروع ضخم على أطراف المدينة. يُخَطَّط لاستكمال المشروع بحلول 2030."
Urban development analysis (100–110 words)
Write an urban development analysis of a specific Arab city or urban project: P1 (current situation — present tense + يتميَّز بـ/مبني من): "تتميَّز مدينة دبي بمزيج فريد من العمارة التراثية والمعمار الحديث. Must include: urban vocab (يُعيد تصميم/يُجَدِّد), مبني من, passive, both conditionals, لِكَي + subjunctive, reported speech.
NEOM or tradition — urban debate
Quick debate question: "هل ينبغي أن تحافظ المدن العربية على طابعها التقليدي أم تبني مدناً مستقبلية جديدة؟" Write one Arabic sentence for EACH side using different conditional types: Type 1 (real future): "إذا حافظنا على المدن التراثية، سنحمي هويَّتنا الثقافية." Type 2 (hypothetical): "لَو بنَينا مدناً مستقبلية كـNEOM، لَوفَّرنا حلولاً لمشكلات الإسكان المتنامية." Share 4 pairs with class.
