Matched: 0 / 6
Stretch challenge
Choose three matched items and combine them into one accurate sentence or short exchange.
Grammar
Read the rule, notice the pattern and then produce your own examples.
New subjunctive triggers — insistence and demand: يَصِرّ على أَن + subjunctive (insists that): يصرُّ المدافعون عن حقوق المرأة على أَن تَحصُلَ المرأة على حقوق متساوية. يَطالِب بِأَن + subjunctive (demands that): يطالب الناشطون بأَن تُوقِّعَ الحكومات على اتفاقيات المساواة. يَدعو إلى أَن + subjunctive (calls for): تدعو المنظمات إلى أَن يَتَغيَّرَ الوضع. These extend the subjunctive system beyond the three core triggers of P4 — you now see subjunctive as the mood of ALL unrealised desired/required actions.
Notice the pattern
- يَصِرُّ النّاشِطون على أَن تَحصُلَ المَرأَة على حُقوقٍ مُتَساوِيَة.
- يُطالِب المُجتَمَع المَدَني بِأَن تُغَيِّرَ الحُكومات القَوانين.
- تَدعو المُنَظَّمات إلى أَن يَتَغَيَّرَ الوَضع.
Accuracy checklist

Skills Practice
Practise listening, reading, speaking and writing with the same lesson language.
Listening
Listen for sequence. Listen twice: first for the overall meaning, then for evidence.
🎧 Recorded audio coming soon — use the device voice for listening practice now. Keep the transcript hidden for your first two listens.
- What is the main topic or situation?
- What comes first, next and last?
- Write one time or sequence clue you hear.
Check your listening
A successful answer identifies the main topic, at least three accurate words and one relevant detail. Replay once, then reveal the transcript only if you still need support.
Reading
Underline known words before answering.
- What is the main idea or situation?
- Choose one phrase and explain what it means in this context.
- Find one example that shows the lesson language or grammar in use.
- What extra detail could you add to make the text more complete?
Reading support
Start with names, numbers, repeated words, connectors and familiar verb patterns. You do not need to translate every word.
Speaking
Build your answer, then ask a follow-up question.
- Describe two people or things using the target agreement accurately. Give at least three complete examples.
- Use at least three useful items from this lesson and one complete sentence with the target grammar.
- Add one reason, detail or example instead of giving only a short answer.
Working alone? Record yourself for 30–60 seconds, listen back once, and improve one pronunciation, grammar or fluency point.
Writing
Plan, write, check and improve.
Task: Write a balanced opinion response on the lesson issue using reasons and supporting examples. Target: 80–100 words, extending to 130–140 words for an extended exam-style task.
Activities
Complete the activities in order, or choose the one that addresses your weakest area.
Arab women — achievements you may not know
Study a gallery of notable Arab women: Huda Sha'arawi (Egyptian feminist pioneer), Nawal El Saadawi (Egyptian writer and activist), Rania Al-Abdullah (Queen of Jordan, education champion), Lubna Al-Qasimi (UAE minister of foreign trade), Ines Anouar (Tunisian judge), Sara Al-Amiri (UAE minister and space programme leader). "Behind stereotypes about gender in the Arab world lies a complex reality of remarkable achievement and genuine struggle. Today we discuss gender equality in Arabic with the nuance it deserves — using balanced argument, formal vocabulary, and the full P5 grammar."
Gender equality vocabulary and new subjunctive triggers
Present gender equality vocabulary. New subjunctive triggers: يَصِرّ على أَن (insists that — doubled root ص-ر-ر: يصرُّ), يَطالِب بِأَن (demands that), يَدعو إلى أَن (calls for). Write 4 sentences using these triggers with subjunctive verbs: "يصرُّ المجتمع الدولي على أَن تَحصُلَ المرأة على فرص عمل متساوية. تطالب الناشطات بأَن تُغيِّرَ الحكومات قوانين الأحوال الشخصية. تدعو منظمات حقوق الإنسان إلى أَن يَنتَهيَ العنف الأسري." Check subjunctive ـَ marker on each verb following the trigger.
Balanced gender equality argument (100–110 words)
All five P5 structures + new subjunctive triggers required.
Balanced argument — fact vs opinion
Read your partner's paragraph and mark: F (fact — verifiable statistic or observable phenomenon) vs O (opinion — writer's interpretation or evaluation). Then: "Is the argument balanced? Does it present both progress AND remaining challenges?" Share findings briefly. "Balanced argument in Arabic is not neutral — it is deliberately presenting BOTH sides with equal linguistic sophistication. A paragraph that uses formal vocabulary only for negative claims and informal language for positive ones is unconsciously biased."
Three triggers — gender justice argument
Write 3 sentences — one with each insistence/demand trigger: "يصرُّ الناشطون على أَن.. يطالب المجتمع المدني بأَن.. تدعو المنظمات إلى أَن.." Read one or two aloud, or compare them with a partner. check subjunctive accuracy. "These three sentences together form the core of a demands argument — exactly the register used in UN resolutions, human rights reports, and Arabic political speeches. You can write like this now."
Useful to have
Things you can make or find to help you revise this lesson:
- Gender equality vocabulary reference
- Arab women achievements cards (notable scientists, politicians, activists)
- Balanced argument writing frame
- Subjunctive with insistence and demand display
Stretch challenge
If you already speak some Arabic at home: write a feminist analysis (110+ words) examining gender equality in a specific Arab country from their heritage — covering: legal framework, women's achievements, remaining challenges, and both conditional types for analysis. Use new subjunctive triggers (يصرُّ على أَن، يطالب بأَن، يدعو إلى أَن) throughout. Sensitive, rigorous, formally Arabic.
Plenary
Finish with a quick check and one clear next step.
