Decoding strategy — think aloud
Model the decoding process yourself with كَتَبَ: identify each letter, say its vowelled sound, then blend the sounds. Repeat with three more words, then decode قَرَأَ، ذَهَبَ، رَجَعَ. Write a simple transliteration above each word only if you need it, then try again without the transliteration.

Choose a reading level: Level 1 single vowelled words; Level 2 short 2–3 word phrases; Level 3 short sentences. Practise for three minutes, then read aloud and mark each item ✓ or ↺. Repeat any item marked ↺ until it is smoother. Working with a partner? Listen to each other and give one specific pronunciation correction.

Study 10 simple vowelled words on paper. You have 2 minutes to read all 10 silently and write your transliteration. Then go through together — Listen as the text is read, you compare. This builds speed and automaticity.
