Town adjective spectrum
Draw a line on the board: هادئة ← → صاخبة. Ask: "Where would you place your town/city on this spectrum?" Write their town name and place it on the line (1–10). Compare: do You agree? Discuss briefly. Then repeat with: نظيفة ← → قذرة، آمنة ← → خطيرة، حديثة ← → تقليدية. These four spectra immediately generate opinion language in a concrete, personal way. You are already using the adjectives before formal teaching begins.
Town adjectives and balanced argument structures
Present the 10 town adjectives with gender agreement examples. Note: قبيح has been removed from the 2028 vocabulary list — use غير جميل instead (good example of how the 2028 changes affect teaching). Write 5 adjective sentences about their town/city. Then introduce the balanced argument structures: من مزايا مدينتي أنَّ... / من عيوب مدينتي أنَّ... Write 3 advantages and 2 disadvantages of their local area using these structures. Encourage specificity: "من مزايا مدينتي أنَّ المواصلات العامة ممتازة" (not just "أنها جميلة").
Balanced town description — 70–80 words
Write a balanced description of their town or a town they know: Paragraph 1 (introduction and location — 2 sentences). Paragraph 2 (advantages — 3 sentences using من مزايا... / يتميَّز بـ). Paragraph 3 (disadvantages — 2 sentences using من عيوب... / يفتقر إلى). Paragraph 4 (personal opinion — 1–2 sentences). Requirements: at least 5 different adjectives (with correct agreement), both balanced argument structures, one يتميَّز بـ or يفتقر إلى, and a clear personal opinion with لأنَّ. Level 1: writing frame. Level 2: paragraph starters only. Level 3: free writing.
Image comparison — contrasting Arabic cities
Study 2 contrasting Arabic city images side by side: e.g. Old Medina Fez (تقليدي، هادئ، جميل، تاريخي) vs Dubai Downtown (حديث، صاخب، نشط، مكتظ). Write 4 comparison sentences using أكثر/أقل (analytical comparative — accessible at F6): "دبي أكثر حداثةً من فاس. فاس أكثر هدوءاً من دبي." This cross-cultural comparison enriches Topic Area C (the built environment) and makes the adjective vocabulary personally meaningful.
My ideal city features
Write 5 features of their ideal city using من مزايا مدينتي المثالية أنَّ... Share 5 with class. Build a class "ideal city" profile on the board. Discuss: does the ideal city match where You actually live? What would need to change? One student writes a summary sentence in Arabic: "المدينة المثالية في رأي صفِّنا هي مدينة [adjectives] فيها [features]." You photograph this class sentence.
